Creative Director (Copywriting, Design, Video, UX)

Union Home Mortgage | Strongsville, OH | June 2023 – September 2024

Brought in to help lead a new marketing team for UHM and elevate the creative output of the internal design team, which consisted of two art directors, three designers, two videographers, and four external copywriters. 

  • Managed the creative execution of over 800+ annual projects spanning traditional and digital mediums across UHM and its subsidiary brands, including Mutual Title, UHM TPO, UHM Insurance, and Medina Country Club, 
  • Assisted in creating a marketing process for the company, which included project management, strategy, creative briefs, creative kick-offs, weekly meetings, proofreading, and internal reviews. 
  • Worked with outside external agencies (Brokaw, Think Media) to assist corporate with loan officer recruitment. 
  • Helped evolve UHM’s brand guidelines, social media best practices for loan officers, and email best practices. 
  • Served as creative lead on sponsorship initiatives for the Cleveland Guardians, Ohio State University Athletics, Akron Rubber Ducks, and Gasparilla Bowl. 
  • Responsible for recruiting, interviewing, and hiring an external bench of designers, videographers, external copywriters, Spanish translators, make-up artists, production designers, and design and copywriting interns. 
  • Collaborated with former Cleveland Browns quarterback and UHM Brand Ambassador Bernie Kosar on radio, TV, social, and billboard campaigns to market the company. 
  • I helped develop a templated process through Desygner, which was a Canva-type program that Loan Officers could use to create personalized assets for social posts, print ads, out-of-home creative, and more. 
  • Attended weekly Marketing strategy meetings with the executive team, including the CEO & Senior Vice President, to discuss upcoming projects and share work.

Creative Manager | Associate Creative Director | Senior Copywriter

Progressive Insurance (Ninety6)  |  Mayfield Heights, OH   |  September 2012 – June 2023

Hired as the first senior copywriter in Progressive Insurance history to help formulate Progressive’s in-house agency, Ninety6. What started as a seven-person team in 2012 transformed into more than 80 team members during my tenure. Reporting to the Business Leader of Creative and CMO, I was promoted to ACD in 2015 and Creative Director in 2018. Had a hand in the hiring of most of the team members and internal creative processes that are used today. 

  • Reported to the Business Leader of Creative & CMO, which was responsible for $750 million+ of creative advertising spend. 
  • Worked with designers, producers, developers, copywriters, videographers, project managers, and external agencies to produce award-winning, best-in-class, best-practice deliverables for every type of medium and platform. 
  • For over ten years, I created cool stuff across all mediums for America’s #1 brand icon and perky mascot, Flo. 
  • Managed a direct reports group comprising two copywriters and four digital designers, spanning college graduates to associate creative director levels. 
  • Oversaw the day-to-day assignments and project management of five copywriters, three UX designers, 14+ digital designers, a 15-person, in-house production team, and contractors. 
  • Responsible for the creative development of the following business areas: Acquisition/Direct Marketing, Commercial Lines, Customer Retention Marketing, Social Media, Recreational Lines, and Independent Agents (B2B). 
  • Reimagined Brand Identities for Progressive’s B2B/Independent Agency, Recreational Lines, Commercial Lines, Loyalty, and Snapshot (including Proview and Road Test). 
  • Assigned more than 3,000+ projects annually spanning a myriad of internal and external business areas. 
  • Led the creative development of Commercial Lines, CRM, and Acquisition—responsible for sending hundreds of millions of DM pieces, emails, social posts, and display ads. 
  • Created writing guidelines, digital content style guide, Spanish-translation content guidelines, and brand behaviors (aka voice), which touches internal employees, external customers, independent agents, and the B2B sales team. 
  • Served as co-creative lead on several high-tier consumer-facing initiatives, including April Fool’s Day, Super Bowl ideations, Flo’s Chop Shop Motorcycle Event, Digital Activations, national broadcast spots, Pets Best Pet Insurance as well as our company’s Loyalty program. 
  • Led a creative team to help our CRM team revamp and rewrite Progressive’s 150+ consumer-facing transactional and cross-sell emails. 
  • Ideated the company’s first Service Brand for CRM, including new customized font, imagery, illustration, icons, and voice—which helped increase customer retention to record levels. 
  • Oversaw the PGR Master Brand team, where we aim for brand consistency and integration across all business areas, including font usage, color palette, guidelines, voice, and tone.
